I’m an English traveller who loves to explore the world, one day at a time. And. when I was 19 one single phone call changed my life.
He asked, catching me on my way home from work, “How do you fancy coming to Australia with me?”
You see at that age I had nothing going for me. I was in a dead-end job, had few friends and couldn’t see a life for myself outside of Manchester. On the same day of the call I’d received a rejection letter from London South Bank University, the only university that would entertain me.
I felt condemned to living the same, grey, boring life forever - and I wanted out.
I bit his hand off at the opportunity and threw every penny I had into a plane ticket and spending money. Three months later I flew home a completely different man.
Travel, and all of the experiences, opened my eyes to a whole new world. One where I could be, or do, anything I wanted. It was the best education that money could buy.
Fast forward five years and I’ve been to 28 different countries, can speak three languages, I’ve been a self-published author, and I’m a full-time freelance writer who can work from anywhere in the world.
Travel completely transformed my life, and this blog aims to share how you can use it to change yours too, no matter how short the trip is.
On the blog I talk about:
Travel tips and tricks: How to get the most from a city, in the shortest time (or smallest budget)
Locations: Destinations you need to see.
Language Learning: How to learn a language, or connect with locals, in record time
Travel Tech: Apps and Gadgets that will make travel a heck of alot easier for you
Travel Photography: How to capture the perfect photograph (just using your mobile phone!)
Education and Work: What it’s like to work abroad and how to use travel to educate yourself.
Okay, that’s a lot about me, let’s talk about the site...
When I travel I often find myself with just one day to explore a new town or city. Then it’s on to the next place, or another attraction.
And, sometimes, you find yourself wandering around wondering:
Where do I eat?
What do I see?
How much does everything cost?
Because sites like TripAdvisor are so riddled with bad information that you can’t figure out what you should do, or where to go. And you’re probably walking past hundreds of opportunities to learn about the place, and experience a different culture.
I mean, how many times do you want to be told to go and see the big cathedral?
If you’re like me you also hate wasted time when you travel. You want to get the most out of every second you’re there and to come home filled with experiences and knowledge.
That brings me to the next question...
A One Day Guide aims to show you how you can get the most from any location, in the smallest amount of time.
The books are tried, tested and research by me. I only ever write about places I’ve been, and that I feel you should go. There’s also a tonne of information from locals who have taken me to the places and shared their stories with me.
I’m currently working on the first batch of guides, but if you want to know when they become available just pop your email in the box below…
